If you've ever heard the song "Cecilia" by Simon and Garfunkel and really listened to the lyrics, you're probably wondering why we would ever want to reference the song when talking about our daughter. We didn't name her after the song, we just loved the name, and the song it cute and catchy. But we did do a little research into the lyrics just to see what the song was really about.
Here are the original lyrics:
Cecilia, you're breaking my heart
You're shaking my confidence daily
Oh, Cecilia, I'm down on my knees
I'm begging you please to come home
Cecilia, you're breaking my heart
You're shaking my confidence daily
Oh, Cecilia, I'm down on my knees
I'm begging you please to come home
Come on home
Making love in the afternoon with Cecilia
Up in my bedroom (making love)
I got up to wash my face
When I come back to bed
Someone's taken my place
Cecilia, you're breaking my heart
You're shaking my confidence daily
Oh, Cecilia, I'm down on my knees
I'm begging you please to come home
Come on home
Jubilation, she loves me again,
I fall on the floor and I'm laughing,
Jubilation, she loves me again,
I fall on the floor and I'm laughing
And here is the research we found behind the song:
The “Cecilia” of the title is generally interpreted as being a capricious lover, causing both anguish and jubilation to the singer. However, another interpretation is that Cecilia might refer to St. Cecilia, patron saint of music in the Catholic tradition, and thus the song might refer to the frustration of fleeting inspiration in songwriting. St. Cecilia is mentioned in another Paul Simon song, “The Coast” (from his 1990 album The Rhythm of the Saints): “A family of musicians took shelter for the night in the little harbor church of St. Cecilia.”
I'm not gonna lie, knowing the song is about a patron saint rather made me feel better about using the name Cecilia!

Big Sister
Look at the excitement on that Big Sister's face!
She loves, loves Cecilia! She cannot wait to hold her, teach her things, and play with her.
I was surprised at how emotional both she and I were while in the hospital. I had a hard time leaving to go to the hospital because I knew I was leaving Madelyn for a few days. It took me a while to actually get in the car to go to the hospital. Matt had the bags loaded, Madelyn in the car, and was waiting on me. I was wandering around the house looking for more things to take with us, things that I didn't need, I didn't realize I was stalling but for some reason I was. I cried on the way to the hospital, not exactly for sure why, just emotional. Leaving Madelyn was hard for me.
And Madelyn had a hard time too. On Sunday, Matt took Madelyn and went to lunch with my sister and her husband. While at the restaurant she was misbehaving a little and acting a little strange. After a while she finally admitted that she was nervous leaving Cecilia and I in the hospital by ourselves. She also cried everytime she had to leave us. And now that we are home she would rather stay at home with Cecilia than go to school.
Madelyn knows the Simon and Garfunkel song, "Cecilia", and often holds Cecilia and sings the chorus of the song to her. It is really sweet. She talks to Cecilia and says, "Want to come see Big Sis? or Big Sis loves you!" She loves to help, even change the poopy diapers. (at least for now) It is really exciting to watch our girls interact and grow!

Introducing...
Miss Cecilia Rae Eaves!!
This precious face entered our world on January 13th, 2013.
At my 39 week doctors appointment I told my dr. that I really didn't want to go back to work. In my mind I was thinking bedrest for a few days but she was thinking inducing. She suggested we see what appointments for induction that the hospital had available the following week and I went along with it thinking I would have some options. But she came back in the room and said, "Okay, we are booked for 8 am on Monday morning." I was a bit shocked but was ready to meet this baby.
However, this angel had plans of her own. I started having contractions in the middle of the night on Friday and had them all day on Saturday but they weren't consistent enough. By 4:00 pm on Saturday we decided to call the hospital. My sister and her husband came to stay with Madelyn and we headed to the hospital. Arriving at about 6:00 pm we got settled in there. And she was born at 2:24 am on Sunday.
Since we didn't find out gender this was our big moment. We came to the hospital prepared with two names. Girl = Cecilia Rae and Boy = Landon Chase. I was pretty certain this baby was a boy because the pregancy and delivery was a little different from Madelyn's. On the car ride to the hospital we were listening to the radio and Simon and Garfunkel's song "Cecilia" came on the radio! What a coincidence!! That kept us wondering, is this a boy or a girl! Since we are a bit competitive, we placed a little bet, Matt took girl and I took boy.
And when our dr. delivered the baby she asked Matt to tell us what we have. He paused, looked, paused again, and then hollered out, "It's a girl!" I spent the next hour in shock! I really thought it was a boy.
She weighed 6 pounds 13 ounces and was 18 inches long.
Bonding with Mommy
Our first family of four picture! Do we look tired? That could be because it is just after 6 am on Sunday. My sister reported that Madelyn was so excited she had a really hard time sleeping on Friday night and as soon as they got the text that the baby had been born Madelyn insisted that they all come immediately to the hospital. So they all got dressed and ready and headed in to see us at about 5:30 am! She had really wanted a brother so she didn't have to share her girly toys so I was a bit worried about her reaction. She has been over the moon in love with her! Such a wonderful Big Sister!
Cuddling with Daddy!
Our stay at the hospital was short and sweet. She was born early Sunday morning and we went home on Monday afternoon. It did seem that we were there forever. We were all ready to go home and snuggle together in our own house. Since labor/deliver went smoothly, I was feeling excellent, and Cecilia was doing wonderfully my doctor gave us the okay to go home on Monday.
Our families came to stay with us for a few days and we've enjoyed visits from lots of friends and co-workers! Cecilia has been such a sweet baby and we have all enjoyed snuggling with her!

The Final Countdown!!
39 Weeks!! Counting down the days, literally, Madelyn made me a countdown! So this is my final pregnancy post! (not that I've been too good about updating)
Pregnancy Highlights:
Symptoms: tired, tired, tired, backache, and my patience is beginning to wear a little thin
Total Weight Gain: about 23 pounds, just don't have enough room to eat much, work has been stressful and home rennovations have kept me super busy so I think those are the major contributors.
Progress: I have a doctor's appointment me tomorrow to hopefully iron out some details about when Baby Eaves might be making an appearance. The timing of the arrival has me a bit stressed because we are dealing with Madelyn, family coming to town, and our dog.
Things I miss: oh gosh, where to start, I miss being able to move around easily, being able to breathe, wine, eating what I want or drinking too much coffee without feeling guilty that I am eating for a tiny person too, getting in and out of bed with easy
Best moment recently: finishing up the nursery and having Madelyn help get all the baby stuff out and ready has really been exciting to see. She cannot wait to be a big sister!! She rubs and kisses my belly, talks to the baby about our family and all the things she will teach he/she to do. It is super sweet. I know there will be bumps in the road with jealousy and attention getting behaviors but she is thrilled to have a sibling and we are hopeful for our kids to have a close bond through out their lives.
A few weeks ago I went into Motherhood Maternity to purchase a few thing for nursing and as I walked out of the store I realized this is probably the last time I ever shop in that store. I have to admit it made me a little sad. We are pretty darn sure that this is the last Baby Eaves for us, with our history of fertility problems, miscarriages, and even the start of this pregnancy was pretty scary, I think we both agree we are blessed. But still I was a little sad to think this is last time I will ever experience a baby kick inside me or watch my belly expand with a little in there.
I remember from being pregnant with Madelyn each day waking up wondering if today is "the day" and then going to bed that night thinking "nope, still pregnant!" So hoping the next 5 days race by. We still have plenty to do around our house!! I have been a "nester on crack" recently. Our basement was finished last Friday, yippee!! Did I mention that it was supposed to be finished by Thanksgiving so that we wouldn't end up this close to baby day (but that is another post, another day). And we decided to recarpet the entire house while we were at it, WHO DOES THAT? Us, the Idiots. So carpet was finished yesterday and now we have 5 days to put it all back and deep clean our entire house. This is what I was dealing with earlier this week:
And that is just the kitchen. Anyone that knows me knows that my house looking like this makes me itchy under my skin until it is fixed. Fortunately, Matt's job allows him time to be at home when we need it and he was able to supervise and direct traffic. We also paid the carpet people to move all the big furniture, Best Decision, Ever!! We moved all the little stuff, and oh my goodness, we have a lot of stuff!! So I took this opportunity to purge! Every closet, every piece of clothing, every bag, shoe, toy, etc. I also stayed up late to wash the walls, clean the baseboards, and polish the furniture. Most of everything is put away and our house is almost back to normal. Somehow, some way it all came together in the end. Now on to repainting and buying new furniture for the living room, fun stuff.
As all the projects come to a close and I have a little more time to think I'm reminded of all the events that will happen over the next week. I don't like hospitals, doctors, medicine. Some things about labor and delivery totally freak me out. All went perfectly with Madelyn but I'm still a little stressed thinking about it all happening again!
Both Matt and I feel truly blessed right now! I feel like someone should pinch me, looking at all the changes in our home we feel blessed with the resources to make those changes happen and the upcoming arrival of baby #2 is incredible and a little surreal. We are just praying for a healthy, happy baby and we cannot wait to be at home bonding as a family of 4!

Dance, Dance
It was Watch Week a while back at dance! It's always fun to be able to see what the little dancers are learning and how well they behave!
This year Madelyn is in a combo class so they are learning lots of the ballet movements. I love seeing them practice with the bar and learn all the little moves!
Lilly and Madelyn sporting their tap shoes. Tap is Madelyn's favorite part of dance class because it is often a little more fun and free then the tradition ballet. I think she would live in her tap shoes if we would let her!!
