Kindergartener

Hooray for KINDERGARTEN!!

We were all so excited for school to start, especially Madelyn!  She couldn't wait to be in a big kid school and Mommy's school.  We had a few fun activities planned the evening before the first day and a super cute book to read but she was so tuckered out from daycare that she slept all evening!!  So we squeezed in a quick photo in the morning and the "Kindergarten Fairy" delivered a little gift of new hair accessories and a sparkly lotion to her!  We were all so excited for the fun new adventure that school brings that there were no tears from any of us.  Madelyn was a little scared when I walked her to her desk and she saw that the only people seated there were boys.  Her exact words were, "Mommy, I don't like boys."  So I pointed out the girls names that would be at her table but just hadn't arrived yet and then she was fine.  She wouldn't let me hug her of give her a quick kiss so off I went to my class.  Later the first day she raised her hand and told her teacher that she didn't realize that kindergarten would be so much fun!  That just melts my heart, I hope she continues to love learning and love her teachers!

MIA

How can it be that this is my first post for the month of August and the month is almost over.  Oops!!  It's called Back To School!!  I have lots to post.  A ton of pictures and funny little stories that I don't want to get lost in the shuffle as we try to throw ourselves into some sort of routine!  We finished up the summer with a few fun activities but my whole ignoring the all day morning sickness didn't quite work out.  We also finished a bathroom redecoration, in the middle of a laundry room reorganization, and getting started on finishing our basement.  Then you throw in a new KINDERGARTENER  and a few doctors appointments for the "baby on board" and well there you have it folks, life has been crazy!  I promise to catch up soon but for now here is my favorite story from the second day of school with Miss Madelyn:

Throughout the afternoon I keep hearing from staff in the building that there a great story about Madelyn in P.E. Our principal even comes into my room, interrupts my class to tell me how hysterical my daughter is.  So naturally I'm a little worried, "What could she have possibly done on the second day of school?" Right?

While in P.E. class there was this little boy named Charlie and he was having a rough day.  So he decided to run out of the gym.  Well, the music teacher was in the hall and escorted him back to class, no worries.  But Miss Madelyn, aka Little Informer, was worried.  So at the end of class she walked by the P.E. teacher and said in her most matter of fact voice, "Make sure you tell Kim (our principal) that Charlie ran out of the gym."  REALLY  KID, you tell the P.E. teacher to do her job, oh, and you also use the principal's first name while doing it.  Great!

Mommy Guilt

So if you read the previous post, I was having a rough day.  I know that being sick is a great sign for your pregnancy but it is really hard to continue to see that after 2 months of sickness.  Sorry if I offended anyone.  Anyway, one of the main issues I have struggled with this summer is an intense case of mommy guilt.  I always look forward to summer, I spend a few hours researching all the fun things to do around the city, new crafts, play dates with friends, recipes, and house projects.  This year I made lists of the stuff I wanted to do with Madelyn and hardly anything has been crossed off, and I feel bad.  We've had more reading, coloring, and movie time that either one of us can handle.  A few times the mommy guilt has been so strong I decided to get tough and do something that afternoon which usually ends with me getting sick where ever we've been and fighting with Madelyn to go home.  So I've decided since I only a few short days left of summer break left we will be doing one activity everyday to pack in the fun!  I've decided I'm not going to be sick and everything will be okay.  Be sure to check back to see what adventures we had!

First Trimester

**Warning: for those of you that felt wonderful during pregnancy don't read this post because I don't like you, sorry!**

First Trimester, otherwise known as cruel and unusual punishment, is over but all the lovely pregnancy symptoms aren't over for me yet.  I always dreamed of being the adorable pregnant girl who was glowing constantly, that is so not the case!!  Icky, sour tummy, fatigue, and intense vomiting has been how I spent most of my summer. I cannot cook, hate smells, don't want to go to the grocery store, and haven't done very many fun things with Madelyn because I don't feel well.   I cannot tell you the number of times Matt came home from work this summer to a filthy house, a bored 5 year old, and a hormonal crying wife.  If anyone ever hears me say I want a third child, remind me of this summer!!

Sprinkler Time

This is what we've been up to this summer!!  Sprinklers, slip-n-slides, and a blow up pool definitely helps beat the exteme heat the last few weeks!

Whee!!

Can't you just hear her saying, "Can I have a popsicle, pleeeeease???

Things that make you go hmmm...

Madelyn and I were on a bike ride the other day and had a very interesting and somewhat alarming conversation.  She was riding her bike down the main street in Basehor on our way to the post office.  The sidewalk in one area gets a little narrow and bumpy and the ditch gets a little deep.  So I switched her places so that I was closest to the ditch just in case.  Here is how the conversation went:

Madelyn: "Mommy, I know why you moved closer to the ditch"

Me: "Why"

Madelyn: "So that I wouldn't get hurt in the ditch"

Me:  "Yep, you're right"

Madelyn: "Guess what Mommy, if you fell down in the ditch and died, I would still know the way home"

Me:  "Hmmmm, well I'm glad you know the way home but you should call 911 and tell them Mommy is hurt."

Madelyn:  "I know, I'm just saying I could get home"

Well isn't that nice, she could get herself home if I was dead in a ditch.  Hmmmm...
